NOTD ~ Usagi time~

[NOTD - nail of the day]

In case some of you aren't aware of what a usagi is, it's basically the Japanese word for 'bunny/rabbit'. This design was again inspired by luuthienluv's Blog - No.124 with the rabbit design. I decided to challenge myself by keeping to the brushes that are part of the nail polishes as opposed to cocktail stick or bobby pin.

Accessorize in baby pink (not official name), Nails Inc in Elizabeth Street, Sinful Colors Professional in Snow Me White, Rio Professional Nail art in White and Black

Apply a base coat first before using the base colour. If the first layer isn't opaque enough wait for the layer to dry before applying on more. I chose nude with a hint of pink for my base colour.

Paint half a circle on the tips of each nail switching between the colours of baby pink and white for the odd/even look. Personally I would carefully paint the semi-circle so it wouldn't be too high up on the nail or lopsided. This would be the head of the bunny.

Carefully draw two lines, representing the bunny ears, from the top of the nail towards the head. The reason why I painted in this direction is so I wouldn't end up with streaky ears instead of the round end. It can be optional for the length of the ears but I opted for the long strokes.

For the thin stroke inside the ears I made sure that there wasn't a lot of the polish on the brush enabling me to carefully paint the design without excessive amount in one go. I tried going for the long teardrop effect and was only successful on some. Switching around the colours for the ears [pink for white bunny and vice versa] this look is cuter and keeps with the consistency of the colours I'm using.

I used the black nail pen to draw on the eyes, nose and mouth of the bunnies. The white for the eyes are optional but I left them out as I feel they're cute without as well. (• ε •)

Put on a top coat to seal the design et voila~ you now have bunnies on your nail! [Not the right season but they're adorable!]

NOTD ~ Mint leopard print

[NOTD - nail of the day]

Another simple design focusing on the whole statement nail idea. This is the first time I've done this kind of art where my ring finer would be the one standing out from the rest.

Here are the nail polishes I've used for this design:

Nails Inc in Caramel, Rio Professional Nail art in black and ORLY in Jealous Much

Apply a base coat before main base colour. For this shade I had to apply two coats to look more opaque.

Using the brush from the nail polish I made short dashes around the nail keeping a good distance between them as I would be painting an "outline" and miniature 'C's in the spaces available.

Use the fine black nail brush to carefully "outline" the dashes but not completely. Almost like painting a 'C' as well as small ones in the spaces. Put on top coat and the design is sealed.

Et voila~
nail art complete~

NOTD ~ Strawberries

[NOTD - nail of the day]

I was inspired by luuthienluv's Blog with her take on strawberry nails. I picked out similar colours but lacked in lilac so opted for baby pink.

Here are the nail polishes I've used for this design:

W7 Diamond Top Coat, 17 Nail Xtras nail recovery, Barry M Strawberry Ice Cream, MUA in dark fushia and H&M Hello Kitty in Garden Green

So I applied the nail recovery as my base coat due to my nails chipping (weep) and painting odds and even with the Strawberry and fushia polishes.

I used a cocktail stick to do the detailing of the small leaves [Garden Green] of the strawberry as none of my brushes are small enough for this. I don't mean the brushes from the polishes themselves but brushes I would use to paint in general. [Reminder to self: buy small brushes cheap cheap cheap!]

Again using the cocktail stick to dot the same Garden Green polish leaving a decent gap between each line. Lastly apply top coat to protect the design~~

Et voila~
simple strawberry nail art

NOTD ~ Kirby

[NOTD - Nail of the day]

The much loved squashy little pink ball of cuteness adorns my nail today. This was done over two days to allow the base colour to dry within good time.

Here are the nail polishes I've used for this design:
W7 Diamond Top Coat, Rio Professional Nail art in Yellow, White and Black,MUA Shade 16 and Accessorize in baby pink (not official name)

I'm right-handed so I only painted my left nails. I've tried waiting a few days before putting on top coat just to see if there was any difference in avoiding the whole "runny polish" problem but it still happened so I just put the top coat on a few hours after the last polish have set. The first image was BEFORE applying the top coat on plus it's better than what I'm looking at now... [runny star borders...sob]. Kirby looks intact...just about...
